Literature Text

Angel sat under a tree, near her home and watched calmly as a breeze moved the grass on the hills. It was so calm on the farm. She didn’t like it. She sighed, shaking her head sadly. Her breeder had gone to the market to shop food for them after training. And now she had nothing to do. Training hadn’t gone so well. Her breeder had tried to teach her fire spin, but she hadn’t succeeded. Not that she couldn’t do it. She was the greatest after all. She smirked arrogantly. It was just her trainers fault. Yeah, she was just a bad teacher. If she had had a good teacher, she would have learned it in a minute. That was it! She nodded to herself, before sighing again. But she didn’t have a good teacher, just her breeder. She’d have to learn it on her own.

Blaze trotted through the barn, making sure to keep his tail up as to not to burn the hay that lay scattered on the ground. Selene, his owner, wouldn’t be too pleased if he set the barn on fire. He didn’t really get why there was hay in the first place. Sure, she wanted to have a ponyta eventually and he guessed they ate hay, but weren’t ponyta fire types too? Oh, well, it’d be their problem if they burned the place down. Now he just had to keep himself buzzy without causing trouble. He curiously looked around some more in the stables, before deciding it wasn’t all that interesting. Instead he snuck out the doors, determined to go on an adventure outside. Selene had told him not to go to far, but she wasn’t here at the moment so he could do what he wanted. He smiled mischievously and was so caught up in sneaking away, that he never took notice off another pokémon sitting under a tree.

Angel watched as one of her fellow farm pokémons walked passed. The idiotic one called Blaze. Her breeder had better shipped him of instead of that purloin. At least the purloin was quiet. Seeing the look on his face, told her that he was up to no good. She let her head hang dramatically knowing that now it would be up to her to get him back. He was not her responsibility, but she didn’t feel like listening to her breeder’s whines if that dumb charmander got himself lost. “And where are you planning on going?”

Blaze froze when he heard someone. He looked back recognizing his fellow group member Angelica. Aah, he had been caught. Just. His. Luck. He smiled innocently at the female vulpix. “N-nothing.”

Angel scowled at him. “You are a terrible liar. You better stay here or  our breeder will be mad.”

Blaze pouted, crossing his tiny arms. “But it’s sooo boring here. I’ve got nobody to play with,” he whined, hoping to convince her to let him go. “What am I supposed to do?”

“Well, try doing something useful like training for once,” Angelica answered irritated. She was bored of him already.

Now Blaze was irritated too. “Why?! I don’t see you doing anything ‘useful’ either.” He puffed his cheeks up, feeling insulted.

“Ha, if you must know I just finished a very important training with our breeder,” Angel said arrogantly. How dare that black thing question her activities?!

“Oh, yeah?! What did she learn you, huh? And she has a name, you know. It’s Selene!”

That got Angel quiet and she turned her head away. “Well, we are still working on it.”

Blaze pointed at her, grinning. “Ha, that means you couldn’t do it!”

“Not true!” Angel screamed, snapping her head back and glaring. “It’s just a very difficult technique and it requires further practice to perfection it.”

“Oh, yeah?” Blaze looked like he wasn’t buying it. “So show it then, huh. I bet I can learn it in a minute.”

That didn’t sit quite right with Angela, who felt like he was attacking her pride. “Fine,” she snapped. She got ready, taking a minute to concentrate, while Blaze waited impatiently. “Well, you gonna do something or what?” He got an angry ‘yeah, yeah’ as reply and he watched as Angel turned her head from side to side spitting fire.

‘Please, let it work, let it work!’ The vulpix thought as she turned her head quickly, trying creating a vortex with her fire. She quickly got frustrated as once again the circle wouldn’t close fully. Blaze was laying on his back laughing. “What are you even trying to do?”

Angel was very angry now. “Fire spin! But she taught me wrongly!”

Blaze frowned. “What Selene?” He shook his head. “You are the Pokémon, you know. You should be the one completing the move. Selene can only guide you. She can’t use fire after all. Besides, shouldn’t you spin?”

Angelica was miffed that he was lecturing her. He the stupid one. But he was right for once. How could a human like her breeder understand the genius of Pokémon moves after all. “Spin?”

Blaze nodded. “Yeah, circle around. It is call fire spin after all. I bet I could do it.” He set himself ready before twirling around. Dizzily he fell, hearing Angelica shriek. “Hey, look out!”

“Huh?” He looked over to the vulpix, who had moved back a bit and was now glaring at him. “What did I do?”

“You got flames flying off your tail, you dumb Pokémon! You almost burned me!”

Blaze blinked. “Really?” He climbed up again, getting ready for another spin. Angel scrunched up her nose. “What are you doing?” she asked exasperated.

“You said I flicked fire, right? I’m gonna see if I can do that again!” He grinned, twirling again, now prepared for the dizziness that followed. And indeed little flecks of fire came loose from his tail as he turned. “Awesome! Selene will be happy with this. Now I just have to work on the dizziness,” He said proudly, preparing to spin again.

Angel looked on disdainfully, unhappy with this new development. Now the idiot learned something while she got an imperfect move. She scowled getting up. Two could play that game! She dug her claws into the earth before she jumped. Turning in the air, she shot her fire again, her eyes widening as the circle was actually completed. The charmander had been right! It needed actual spinning. By the time she sat on the ground again, the fire had already died out for the most part. Now she only had to train on prolonging it. She looked over at the black charmander who was still twirling around, occasionally falling. He was such an idiot, but… he could stay. He was useful after all.

They both trained side to side, until they trainer came back with food and they ran inside. They still weren’t friends, but at least they could stand each other now.
